After I modded the config.sys, and increased the CM availible from 568 to 589k, it stopped bitching. When the program ran, it would complain that it needed 570,000 bytes of CM. On a MEM command, I often find that conventional memory is around 568k. If I run the program in DOS mode, either by exiting windows or rebooting, doing the F8 and selecting command prompt, the program runs flawlessly. However after a few key presses to navigate through the display, it locks up. When it gets done with the connection, I can navigate the terminal settings, what the machine is doing, what valves are opening/closing. It then does a checksum I suppose it is, data table check, whatever the hell that means, and all comes out fine. When i select the PLC-2 Terminal from the list, it doesnt lock up.

HOWEVER, if I run the program in FULL SCREEN mode, I can run the program fine, its fast and responsive. But when trying to navigate to the terminal where the machine is located, it locks up, and takes W98 with it, forcing a reboot (and with a machine this puny rebooting takes minutes for all that crap to load). When navigating to open some file, its fine. However while the program runs in the window, it acts weird. After playing around with config.sys and modifying the varibles for the and range, the error seemed to go away. For one, it would complain of not having enough conventional memory.

Now, the software has never been able to run under windows correctly. Trust me, if I had my way I'd change it, but I dont.

For some reason, the company doesnt plan on upgrading to 2K Pro or XP any time soon, and if they could, they wouldnt run, because the "workstations" are POS Gateway P166's with 32mb ram, and 14" monitors, running a MILLION goddamn programs in the backround (Timbuktu, Quickmail Pro, Novell crap, PC Anywhere) running on 98. The problem is getting it to work under Windows98. Now the problem isnt with the software or hardware. You can run ABSHELL directly, but as soon as you select PLC-2 from the list of terminals, it quits to prompt nested in 2 directories. ABMENU is about 3kb, while ABSHELL is a good 250k or so. The program I guess works like this: You are supposed to execute a file called ABMENU.EXE (Allen Bradley Menu Interface) which then calls a second exe called ABSHELL.EXE, which Im guessing is the actual interface to the PLC-2. Allen Bradley's knowledge base is useless, Im yielding NO returns when I search for topics. This is the only PLC-2 machine we have, the others are newer model Micrologix/RSLogix firmware and Windows clients like the RSLogix 5 and 500 etc. The software controls a plastic mold injection machine, and to monitor/admin the machine, we use its DOS interface. The software is for the Allen Bradley PLC-2 interface, an ancient (at least 10 years old) terminal interface. I just got back from 5 excruciating hours fighting ancient DOS software.
